Meeting Notes - 01 June 2000

A little late in the season this year but at last our first Burning Man
meeting. Sorry for posting the notes a day late but I have been cursed by
pacbell and just have had an endless array of problems with our new DSL
service, blah.

The first issue is figuring the base line budget needed for the renting of
the trucks, the generator, fuel, food, and minor misc. Freeform had told
Spark and I $4000, Christina felt it was more like $6000. Steve offered to
help us out on our numbers and will look into the budget bible and to find
The Truth (about our costs). Being this late in the year most of us would
rather not have to throw a fund raiser, and if we can we would like to see
if we can raise the money within the group. We also need to find out if
Bianca.com will be putting in any money and what that amount is. (Form?)

Couches were discussed and most agreed that they are good to define the
perimeter of the tent and help keep the walls of fabric in place. Christina
once again will be doing her fabulous dance floor which may be even larger
this year, and talks began of the answer to our prayers... the Poof Chairs.
Steve, Imber, Ann, Hiroko and Ami seem to be taking on this task. They
would like to finish a prototype before Womb on the 10th and see how it
holds up. I encourage poof chair fabricators to tap into Hiroko and Ami's
expert sewing skills, I heard there was talk of using futon covers but I
would think that if we made them from scratch it could be done much, much
cheaper. (Ami can be reached at 609.LUCY and Hiroko at 255.7643, neither of
them is on burn)
As far as couches go, Sparky and I offered up our basement for couch
storage, there is a side door that is accessible from the front yard. I
will be changing the lock on that door and will hide a key near the local so
anyone can access it 24 hours a day.
We are in desperate need for people with vehicles that can fit a couch or
two in them. If anyone spots a couch the current response team is:

Vehicles Owners: Big strong men to lift and load:
Tracy or Sparky Spot 305.3435
415.845.3159/ 637.9031
                                            JD 510.763.9821
??VJim (possibly?)
                                            Larry 637.3155
Jimp (last resort)

Dtodd does have a pick up truck that he wanted to sell, but would consider
offering up the use of the truck if bianca would take up the expense of a
$33/month insurance payment and shared responsibility of parking. Any
tickets accrued during the use of the truck would be the responsibility of
the driver. The thought was to have a dozen or so keys made for the truck
and it we could access the truck at any given time without having to hassle
Dtodd.

Christina and Paul will be building their wedding suite near the shack as
long as no one objects. There will also be an upgraded shower thanks to the
bride to be. I believe the wedding day will be Wednesday, check with them
for the time.

Austin is hoping to set up a 3 hole par 3 golf course, ideally near the
shack but the location is still to be determined.

There is a plea for either Mikek or Toxic to give as many biancanauts as we
can gather for "Electricity in the Shack 101". We need people to help set
up/ break down and to trouble shoot any problems that occur during the
week. The more the merrier!

Everyone would love to have a bike rack again. A few volunteered Jesse....
last year the racks were made from scrap 2x4's, if anyone can estimate
materials for this, info and volunteers are welcome.

FYI: Sweet pea has a 500ft roll of heavy duty plastic, if any one has any
ideas.... Slippy slide anyone?

DREAM LIST:
Kiddee pools
4 domes (estimated at $200 each)
1 new electric grill
a trampoline
astro turf for the domes
a life size sheeva sculpture with EL wire (a possible Jay and Monk E
creation)

A new item to serve: salt pills or we could get smutty and have salt licks.

I'll be posting a longer response soon, but I wanted to thank everyone for
the tremendous amount of support throughout last week. The cards, flowers,
phone calls and steady flow of visitors helped me keep my sanity and Sparky
was overwhelmed with the response. A million
thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
